As a socially responsible organization, Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company (SECMC) is committed to working for the welfare of communities in Thar. In 2016, the Government of Sindh, in collaboration with companies engaged in Thar coal projects, established an organization called Thar Foundation to improve the standards of living of the people of Tharparkar through graduated and sustainable interventions.

We have adopted the UNDP sustainable development framework to ensure that Islamkot becomes poverty free zone. In accordance with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) set by the United Nations in 2015, our vision is to work with specialized organizations to create a healthier and more prosperous Thar, with particular focus on the communities around the mining and power projects.

UNDP Sustainable Development goals are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity, These goals will be met by all Thar Foundation interventions, which are designed to eradicate multidimensional poverty in Block-II and its surroundings through a public-private partnership model.
